Week 2 - Signs & Visual Communication, Part 2a - Elements of Design (Adobe Illustrator CS6)

PART 2A - Developing Graphic Communications Sensibilities
-This week we will begin to study how lines and shapes are used to form symbols in our minds, and how to manipulate those symbols to get ideas across quickly to the viewer, in ways that stimulate the appropriate reaction.

(1) RESEARCHING CALLIGRAMS

a.) Define the term calligram. What is a calligram?
     - Calligram - A calligram is a poem or phrase.

b.) Find three separate images to post onto your blog as examples of calligrams.  In the caption beneath each picture, identify the word contained in the calligram, and what is being shown.

                                         - Pictogram - A picture of a symbol for a word or phrase.

- A man putting trash in a trash can

- It is displaying the superhero Spiderman
- A woman diving in a pool

c.) See the examples below.  Copy each image to your blog, and in the caption identify each pictogram activity.

                                      or phrases.

b.) Find three pictures of a rebus puzzle, and attempt to translate the symbols used in the rebus into a sentence in plain English.  Write a second sentence that describes what images are used in the rebus.

- Can you see well ?

in this image the devices that are used are a can and a well

- kungfu panda

In this image the devices that are used are a guy doing kungfu and a panda bear

- No place to go

In this image the devices used are a ace card and the number 2 and a green light
